“What do you write about?”
That’s the question I get most often when I tell people I’m a writer. Now, as some of you may know, I’m not a writer by profession; life simply hasn’t been that kind to me yet! Therefore, people I come in contact with seem surprised that I write (and more surprised that I told them; most of my personal dealing are a well kept secret from everyone but my wife). I write because I like to share things, not necessarily real or true things, with people to make them feel things. Is there such thing as bad writing? Aside from the obvious, I believe any writing that doesn’t at least make an attempt to generate feelings in the reader is bad writing. Anyway, I digress…
I don’t generally tell people what exactly it is that I write in person because I feel like it’s a little bit of an invasion of my personal privacy. Surprise! Andrew knight is a pseudonym. I value my privacy.
Hey, I’m sure a lot of you guys share your stuff as much as you can! I like to write things that hit pretty close to home for me. Luckily, because my wonderful wife has been helping me work through a lot of my social issues (you’d never know them if you met me nowadays) I feel like I can be honest with perfect strangers over the internet. Impressive, huh? Like most introverts, I was bullied for the duration of my educational years, and because of that I find it hard to share personal things with people because I fear their rejection of my thoughts. That’s another reason I’m going to give blogging a shot; having a community to be honest with will be a refresher for me.
So, then, back to the original topic: subject matter. What do I write about? I write about people, places, and situations that I’ve either experienced or wish I’d experienced in order to convey powerful feeling. I try to write in a way that answers questions about what it means to be a human being. That’s a bit of a broad answer, but that’s about as honest as I can possibly be. If you’ve read my writing, this will probably make more sense to you. If not, well, you’d better go catch up, because a lot of this blog isn’t going to make sense from here on out if you don’t.
What do you write about? I don’t personally know many other writers, (and I royally screwed my friendship with the best one I did–Abettersideofme, if you ever find this blog, I’m incredibly sorry, more than sorry enough to post an apology here in public) so I’m not quite sure what makes other people tick. Do you write about thing that entertain you? That scare you? Do you write about yourself? Do you write about other people? Let’s talk about it!
