We’ve all tried something new. For some, it’s sports. Some try things like cooking or kayaking. Me, I’ve never blogged before. If you’ll bear with me, I promise we can figure this out together; so, here goes nothing!
Conquering the world of writing seems like a daunting task. Just what is it that need to be conquered? My answer to that is self expression. That’s why we write, right? (I’m so clever!) Anyway, there has to be a reason we spend countless hours scribbling on scrap and punching away at keys: we want to express ourselves. To share a piece of ourselves with whomever is willing to read our work. It’s amazing how a string of squiggly lines, much like the string of squiggly lines you are looking at right now, can capture such emotion and such meaning.Think back to the last time you listened to one of those songs. You know exactly what I’m talking about; one of those songs that sets the hair up on the back of your neck, gives you goosebumps, and makes you remember the exact moment you first heard it. Writing can do that too, believe it or not. Remember that book that made you cry at the end? The one you never wanted to put down? The one you took to school, read at dinner time, and stayed up late with? Think of the first line… heck, go pick the book up and take a look. Go a little further and read the first paragraph. The first page. Remember getting lost in that world? remember those characters being your best friends at that time? Of course you do. We all do.
When i say I want to conquer the world of writing, that is what i want to do. I want to put down the goosebump lines, those laugh-aloud-and-make-the-whole-class-look moments, and the ending that makes you cry. Here on The Knight Owl I hope to evoke discussion that makes us all better writers, whether it’s fact or fiction, past, present, or future.
Come on, my friends. Let’s go on an adventure!
